Joint Venture of Reliance Industries in Data Center Industry
Reliance Enterprises Ltd
(RIL) is joining hands with Brookfield Foundation Accomplices Lp and Digital
Realty Trust Inc. in a three-way venture for setting up special purpose
vehicles (SPVs) aimed at developing data centres in India. RIL will hold a
33.33% stake in the SPVs, a joint statement by the three partners said.
RIL will join a formerly
reported joint endeavor between Digital Realty and Brookfield Infrastructure,
holding an equivalent stake in the organization. Digital Realty is a cloud and
data centre solutions provider.
The joint venture between
Digital Realty Trust and Brookfield Infrastructure, is presently constructing
server farms in Chennai and Mumbai. The first project MAA10 is a 100 MW campus
based 20 MW greenfield data centre in Chennai that is planned to be done
towards the end of 2023. Moreover, the JV as of late purchased 2.15 sections of
land of property in Mumbai to construct a 40 MW data centre. These offices will
be decisively associated with terrestrial connectivity infrastructure and
undersea links, filling in as center points for worldwide availability for
Indian firms and passages into India for global partnerships.
“The partnership will help us
serve our enterprise and SMB clients with cutting-edge, plug-and-play solutions
delivered from the cloud and lead their digital transformation and make them
more competitive and efficient,” said Kiran Thomas, CEO, Jio Platforms Limited.
As the world's largest
provider of cloud services, carrier neutral data centres, hosting and
interconnectivity solutions, Digital Realty Trust holds a leading position. The
company has entered into a joint venture partnership with Brookfield
Infrastructure Group, which owns and operates more than 300 data centres in 27
countries. This cooperation shall aim to create a high quality, well connected
and flexible data centre in India that is capable of meeting the basic
infrastructure requirements of enterprises and internet services companies.
In view of the fact that
India has already become one of the world's largest consumers of mobile
broadband, capacity for data centres in this country is expected to increase
significantly. With more people being able to use OTT services, gaming and 5G
mobile data consumption is going to increase dramatically. Moreover, data
intensive technologies like Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial
Intelligence (AI) will result from the adoption of 5G network driven use cases
by enterprises.
