Total Energies launched its New High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Resin for Tethered Cap Applications

TotalEnergies launched a new HDPE 20HD07 resin for tethered cap applications, which reduces material usage, enhances recovery, and improves recycling.

Europe: The newly designed High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) has enhanced mechanical and organoleptic properties, enabling identical technical cap performances with less material than market reference, thus reducing the carbon footprint of end use applications, such as beverage or cosmetic bottles. Furthermore, it is also appropriate for food-contact applications and this product also consists of all the caps and closures market requirements. The new product line is coordinated with the European Directive (EU) 2019/904 on the reduction of the impact of plastic products on the environment. It also exhibits higher impact strength, low water vapor transmission rate, and good chemical resistance. Further, it provides rigidity and toughness and is, therefore, suitable for packaging applications in the food service and food packaging industries.

This new solution HDPE 20HD07 resin uses way lesser material than conventional solutions currently available in the market while providing a similar technical cap performance. Moreover, it is specifically intended to enrich recovery, sorting, and recycling processes for mono-material polyethylene packaging solutions in the industry while also reducing carbon emissions and improving the circular economy. Besides that, the resin is well suited for food-grade packaging and adheres to all the requirements of the caps and closures market.

According to the Vice President, Polymers Europe & Asia at TotalEnergies, “TotalEnergies is fully committed to improving the environmental impact of its products. Applying eco-design principles in our development process allows us to push downgauging possibilities further, while maintaining high performance and enhancing recyclability, in line with our ambition to produce 30% circular polymers by 2030.”

According to TechSci Research, this new product by TotalEnergies will bring a new revolution in various end-user industries such as Food and beverage and cosmetic industry. TechSci Research believes that this new HDPE by TotalEnergies will open new opportunities for the company to tap into various industries such as packing, construction, and automotive owing to its reliability and durability than traditional HDPE. Moreover, by using advanced manufacturing techniques and optimizing the production process for the manufacturing of HDPE 20HD07 resin, the company has managed to cut down the quantity of material required in various applications. This sustainable approach aligns with the global efforts to cut down carbon emissions and mitigate the environmental impact of plastic production.
