Himachal Pradesh Government Launches Scheme for Distribution of LED Lights and Energy Saving Fans
Himachal Pradesh launched a scheme
allowing distribution of LED tube lights and energy-efficient fans as a part of
an initiative to promote energy saving
India: To promote energy saving in the state,
the government would distribute LED tube lights and fans under ‘Unnat Jeevan by
Affordable LEDs and Appliances for All’ (UJALA) scheme, an extension of old
domestic efficient lighting programme. The government had earlier launched a
scheme to distribute subsidised CLF bulbs and LED lights, which helped in
saving energy worth about USD30 million.
UJALA
was an integral part of energy conservation initiative of the state government
and had been very successfully adopted by the people of the state. Energy
Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a joint venture of Public Sector Units
(PSU) of Ministry of Power, Government of India will implement this programme
across the state. The cost per tube light would be USD3.5 along-with three years’
free replacement warrantee.
TechSci Research
depicts that the state government’s move to launch LED tube lights will help
them in saving energy. For positive outcome, the state government would implement
the program in all the districts in a phased manner.
Moreover, with increasing urbanization in India, coupled with rising
expenditure on promotional programs by government bodies and companies for
promoting use of LED lighting products, along with product innovation by
companies, LED Lighting market is expected to witness an increase across the
country in coming years.
According to a
recent report published by TechSci
Research, “India LED Lighting Market
Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 -
2021”, LED lighting market in India is projected to register a CAGR of over
30% during 2016-2021, due to increasingly affordable prices of LED lights
coupled with implementation of LED bulbs distribution scheme by the government
of India at subsidized rates. Demand for LED lights in India is predominantly
concentrated in the South and North regions due to high population density,
increasing urbanization, rising number of government initiatives that encourage
use of LED lights, etc. In 2015, LED lighting market in India was
dominated by LED bulbs and lamps, followed by LED batten lights; and this trend
is forecast to continue through 2021. Philips, Surya Roshni, Havells, Syska LED
and Osram are few of the leading players in India LED lighting market. Outdoor
lighting applications, which includes street lights, lights in parks, traffic lights,
garage lights, parking lots and other public places, accounted for a majority
revenue share in India LED lighting market in 2015.
