Haryana Government to Set Up Training Centre for Organic Farming
Haryana government
to provide assistance for setting up a centre to train farmers in organic
farming
India: In order to promote organic farming in Haryana, the state government is
planning to set up a training centre for organic farming in Gurukul,
Kurukshetra, which would help the farmers to learn the benefits of organic
farming and would also help them in enhancing their income. The state
government had decided to bring 10 per cent of the total cultivable area under
organic farming in the state, which is being done in a phased manner. Currently,
out of one crore acres of land in the state, area under cultivation is 70 lakhs.
The government has planned to cover seven lakh acres of land under organic
farming.
In the first phase, the dairy farmers are also
being associated with this initiative. The first phase was launched on 2nd
February under which 20 clusters would be established across 10 districts to
promote organic dairy farming. Each cluster would include 50 acres of
agricultural land. The government intends to start five clusters in every block
so that about 50,000 acres of land could be made cultivable under organic
farming in the first phase.
TechSci Research depicts that the initiative taken by the state
government is set to increase awareness regarding the benefits of practicing organic
farming. This would also increase the income of farmers as the organic products
are sold at premium prices as compared to conventional agricultural produce.
The companies offering organic food products would also be benefitted from this
initiative as this would make the process of organic food procurement much
easier in Haryana as well as in neighboring states.
According to a recent report published
by TechSci Research, “India
Organic Food Market
By Product Type, Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 - 2021”, the market
for organic food in India is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of over 25% during
2016–2021, on account of changing food consumption patterns and increasing
instances of contamination of farm produce with chemical fertilizers and
pesticides, surging investments in organic food market and rising use of bio
fertilizers. Organic pluses and food grains segment dominates India organic
food market, as pulses and food grains form an important part of staple diets
in India. Further, West India is anticipated to continue dominating the organic
food in the country through 2021, on account of high disposable income levels
and rising health consciousness among consumers in the region.
