Goa to Achieve Total LED Street Lighting by May 2017
The
state is planning to replace its conventional street lights with LEDs
India: Goa
plans to become the first state to replace its conventional street lights with
LEDs by May this year under Prime Minister's Street Light National Programme
(SLNP). Government of Goa is likely to save nearly USD19.69 Million with
replacement of old conventional street lights with high quality efficient LED
lights, which is being done by the Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL).
EESL is a joint venture company between the PSUs of Ministry of Power,
Government of India and country's largest integrated service providing company,
Bharat Vikas Group (BVG) India Ltd.
Monthly
repayments by GED (Goa Electricity Department) to EESL will be paid through
savings on energy and maintenance cost. There will be net saving of around
USD19.69 million to GED over a period of 10 years until expiry of warranty
period. Replacement work has been started by BVG India Limited in the state and
around 35000 conventional lights have been replaced with LED lights.
According
to TechSci Research, this initiative is set to make Goa a highly energy
efficient state and therefore will increase the penetration of LEDs in the
country. Moreover, due to high life of LED related products, the replacement
demand for street lights is also expected to reduce at a significant rate.
According to a recently
published report by TechSci Research,
“India LED Lighting Market By Type, By Application, By End Use Sector,
Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 - 2021”, LED lighting
market in India is projected to register a CAGR of over 30% during 2016-2021,
due to increasingly affordable prices of LED lights coupled with implementation
of LED bulbs distribution scheme by the government of India at subsidized
rates. Demand for LED lights in India is predominantly concentrated in the
South and North regions due to high population density, increasing
urbanization, rising number of government initiatives that encourage use of LED
lights, etc. In 2015, LED lighting market in India was dominated by LED bulbs
and lamps, followed by LED batten lights; and this trend is forecast to
continue through 2021. Philips, Surya Roshni, Havells, Syska LED and Osram are
few of the leading players in India LED lighting market. Outdoor lighting
applications, which includes street lights, lights in parks, traffic lights,
garage lights, parking lots and other public places, accounted for a majority
revenue share in India LED lighting market in 2015.
