BPL announces its foray into smart
television business
India: BPL, a Consumer electronics maker has
announced its foray into smart televisions and has launched 4K models, under
new Stellar range. The company has introduced 43-inch 4K LED TV, which would
price around USD610, the aggressive pricing set by the company would hit the Indian
and Chinese brands. Further, the
company has plans to launch complete smart television portfolio in various
sizes in the coming three months. The model has been launched through Flipkart.
The company
has plans and is working on few ideas that will alter TV viewing experience of
the consumers. Last year, the
company returned to consumer durables business by foraying into LED televisions
and sold more than 70,000 television sets in the first year. The entry of BPL
into smart television will take the fight with Indian brands like Micromax and Chinese
rival Le Eco who are launching televisions at aggressive pricing.
TechSci Research depicts that from
luxury to basic necessity, television has now become an integral part of the day
to day life. BPL’s foray into smart television segment is expected to benefit
the company as the company is planning to cater the lower price range segment. India
television market has seen numerous technological advancements starting from
cathode ray tube displays to flat panel displays. Increasing disposable income
along with growing middle class population, and rising number of nuclear family
are expected to boost the television market of India in the coming years.
Moreover, with increasing focus of companies on innovations, excellent
distribution channels and easy availability at every nook and cranny parts of
the country.
According to a recent report published
by TechSci Research, “India
Television Market Forecast & Opportunities,
2011–2021”, the television market in India is
anticipated to cross USD 9 Billion by the end of 2021. LED TV segment dominated
the country’s television market in 2015, and the segment is anticipated to
maintain its dominance over the next five years as well. LED televisions are
energy efficient due to the implementation of various dimming technologies
which save power, or technology that turns off LED television, when not in use.
Moreover, LED television provides better High Definition (HD) picture quality
and refresh rate, in comparison to CRT and Plasma televisions. In 2015, south
region was the largest demand generating region of televisions, followed by
west region. Few of the leading players operating in India television market include
Panasonic, Videocon, Sony, LG, and Samsung, among others.
