Tata Group to launch its own E-Commerce platform
The company is
entering the E-commerce space with the launch of its own marketplace named Tata
CLiQ.
India: Tata Unistore, a Tata group
business venture announced its plans to enter India’s E-commerce market through
its brand named CLiQ. The company is expected to launch its new platform on 29th
May and the platform would provide list of brands and handle payment
transactions from brick-and-mortar stores that will set prices, deliver
products and provide customer support.
Initially, the online marketplace will
focus on apparel, electronics and footwear. Over the next few months, it is
planning to expand by adding more categories, brands and features. The
company’s e-commerce platform has been under development since October 2014 by Tata
Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS) and will integrate the experience of shopping
online with the benefits of brick n mortar retail.
According to TechSci Research, the launch
of CLiQ store by Tata is anticipated to further boost the E-commerce market in
the country. The competition in the market would also drive the overall e
commerce market. Also, the company’s omni platform model is also expected to
drive the company’s presence in the upcoming period.
According to a recent report published
by TechSci Research, “India E-commerce Market Forecast & Opportunities,
2020”, the country’s e-commerce market is projected to grow at a CAGR of more
than 36% during 2015-2020. E-services segment, which comprises online travel,
online payments, online classifieds, etc., is expected to continue its
domination through 2020. However, the e-tail segment that includes electronics,
apparels & accessories, health and personal care, etc., is expected to
witness significantly higher market growth compared to e-services segment over
the next five years. During 2015-20, the western region is expected to remain
the largest e-commerce market in the country. Major players operating in
India’s e-tail market include Flipkart, Snapdeal and Amazon.
