Report Description

Global PTFE Membrane Market is expected to grow at a robust pace during the forecast period of 2024-2028. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane filters are made of polytetrafluoroethylene that is expanded and stretched to form a microporous membrane. PTFE membrane filters are laminated to various cloths or papers on substrates through a special process, making them a new filter material with small and uniform pore sizes and large porosity. It can filter out all dust particles, including bacteria, while maintaining air circulation., Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membrane is an inlet membrane as well as a hydrophobic membrane filter which is when treated with ethanol or isopropanol becomes a hydrophilic membrane filter. Hydrophobic membranes do not wet spontaneously whereas hydrophilic membranes may wet spontaneously.

Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) membranes are known to be resistant to high temperatures, strong acids, strong bases, organic solvents, and oxidizing agents. PTFE membrane and hydrophilic PTFE membrane filters, both are chemically compatible and resistant to most chemical solvents. PTFE membranes are chemically stable and inert, suitable for chemically corrosive organic solvents, aqueous solutions and gases, and resistant to most acids, alkalis and solutions.

Global Demand is Expected to Drive the Global PTFE Membrane Market

In the automotive industry, PTFE diaphragm is a fluoropolymer composed of fluorine and used as a breather diaphragm in automotive system applications that can provide reliable protection from dirt, dust, water, and vehicle fluids. For example, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), the automotive industry is projected to grow in 2021, with around 79.1 million vehicles produced worldwide, an increase of 1.3% compared to 2020. According to the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles (OICA), in the United States, automobile production increased from 62,39,401 units in 2020 to 68,57,182 units in 2021. Furthermore, in Austria, car production increased from 86,300 in 2020 to 92,000 in 2021. It is estimated that the demand for PTFE diaphragms in the automotive industry will increase in the next few years as the production volume of automobiles increases. This is expected to drive the growth of the PTFE membrane industry.

Due to its high resistance to fire, extreme temperatures, and other adverse environmental conditions, PTFE membranes are increasingly used in uniform manufacturing used in military, firefighting, and other similar areas. Increased demand from the sports and leisure industry has increased the demand for his PTFE membranes used in the manufacture of clothing and footwear. Increasing industrialization has increased the need for proper ventilation, increasing opportunities for the PTFE membrane market. With the help of PTFE membranes, pollutant emissions are reduced and maintenance is low. This helps in complying with the regulations implemented by regulatory bodies and promotes market growth. A factor limiting the growth of the PTFE membrane market is the availability of other cheaper alternatives in the market.

Latest Market Trends fueling the market growth.

In January 2020, Cytiva opened a new facility in Glen, Switzerland to manufacture single-use kits from PTFE membranes. This facility is expected to have 250 employees. The facility was announced in 2020.

In 2022, Merck announced that it will expand its membrane and filtration manufacturing capacity in Ireland. The company will invest approximately USD 466.07 million to expand its membrane production capacity in Carrigtwohill, Cork, Ireland, and build a new manufacturing facility at Blarney Business Park.

In November 2019, W.L. Gore launched Gore Low Drag Filter Bags, which are made from a PTFE membrane used in the pulse-jet carbon black manufacturing process. This allows us to provide a sustainable and cost-effective ownership solution for our Reverse Air Carbon Black operations.

Frequently asked questions

PTFE diaphragms are made by sintering and skiving. The sintering process uses a combination of heat and pressure to join materials together.

Major market players in Global PTFE Membrane are Hyundai Micro Co. Ltd, Pall Corporation, Merck Millipore Co., GVS S.p.A., Donaldson Company Inc., Sartorius AG, Saint-Gobain Composite Solutions, Pall Corporation, Markel Corporation, and W. L. Gore & Associates Inc.

The basic properties of PTFE arise from these two very strong chemical bonds. The size of the fluorine atom allows it to form a uniform and continuous shell around the carbon-carbon bond, protecting it from chemical attack and giving the molecule chemical resistance and stability.

Moisture affects the sliding wear of carbon fiber reinforced PTFE composites.
