Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project received an investment of USD200 million for studies and engineering
India: The
Shareholders of Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Tapi Project
signed an agreement to invest USD 200 million in studies and engineering. The
agreement signing ceremony was witnessed by petroleum ministers and senior
government officials of four countries and Asian Development Bank officials in
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The TAPI pipeline, once operational will have a
transmission capacity to carry 90 mmscmd gas for 30 years. India and Pakistan
can off take 38 mmscmd each while Afghanistan will have assured supply of
remaining 14 mmscmd.
TechSci
Research depicts that the upcoming Tapi Project will play an instrumental role
in filling the gap between demand and supply of natural gas in India. Gas
Allocation Policy have been implemented to encourage use of gas in different
end-user segments. Tapi Pipeline
will travel 1600 Km in Afghanistan and Pakistan and before ending it at
Fazilka, Punjab in India. In December 2015, construction work has been
started in Turkmenistan and scheduled to be functional by 2018.
According to recently
published TechSci Research report “India LNG Market Forecast and Opportunities, 2025”, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
is playing an instrumental role in filling the gap between demand and supply of
natural gas in India. In the coming years, domestic natural gas production and upcoming
pipeline natural gas including cross country pipeline, would be unable to
address the growing natural gas demand in the country. Thus, LNG is expected to
play a crucial role in bridging the gap between demand and supply of natural
gas.
