Orange Jordan has launched its 5G
services in several areas of Amman and Irbid, becoming the first telecom
company to launch a 5G network in Amman. The company had previously piloted the
5G network in the kingdom in November 2022, and now subscribers can use the new
service for free. Orange Jordan is the second orange country in the Middle East
and Africa to roll out 5G, which will enable significant development of core
infrastructure, driving accelerated digital transformation, smart cities, and
diverse use cases in industries such as entertainment, healthcare,
manufacturing, education, and transportation.
According to Orange Jordan, the
official launch of their 5G services will come once the necessary
infrastructure to deploy 5G services is in place initially in Amman and Irbid.
The company plans to expand 5G coverage to more areas within the set timeframe
using Orange Group's experience in 5G rollout. Orange Jordan is now the only
provider in the Kingdom to offer all internet technologies, including fixed
internet via fiber and ADSL, mobile internet via its 4G and 4G+ networks (as
the exclusive 4G+ provider) and now 5G.
Jordan has taken the first steps
towards formalizing 5G adoption, after the country’s Telecommunications
Regulatory Commission (TRC) signed an agreement with two operators, Orange and
Umniah, in preparation for the introduction of 5G services in the kingdom. The
government will receive a 10% share of the revenues that 5G provides for local
operators. According to the Jordan Times, licensees will receive the 5G
frequencies within one month of signing the agreement. They must launch the 5G
services commercially in a period of no more than 18 months from the license
date. Each licensor will also be committed to covering Jordan’s main regions
and industrial and commercial areas within three years of the license date.
As of June 2023, there are
several other countries around the world that have launched commercial 5G NR
networks, including Armenia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kuwait, Qatar, Russia,
and San Marino etc.
Philippe Mansour, CEO of Orange
Jordan stated on the occasion: “We are proud to be at the forefront of digital

contributing to digital transformation and a culture of innovation to drive

agreement between Orange Jordan and TRC signed in August 2022 and the 5G
