More Than 4,000 Applied for Rooftop Solar Panels in India

India, the (SBPDCL) announced a target to increase solar power generation by up
to 10 megawatts (MW) under the Grid Connected Rooftop Scheme by the
end of December 2023. Approximately 4,439 domestic consumers have already
applied for the installation of rooftop solar panels.
In
India, the Bihar state energy minister announced that the state has ample
potential in solar energy and that consumers should take advantage of the Grid
Connected Rooftop Scheme. "Embracing clean energy in every household in
Bihar is expected to contribute to achieving the goal of zero carbon emission
by the end of 2070
Additionally,
the principal secretary in the energy department, stated that Currently, The South
Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL) has installed solar panels in
the houses of 513 consumers out of the 4,439 applicants. Each installed solar
panel has the capacity to produce over 2MW of electricity. The prescribed fee
for installing solar panels has been submitted by 731 consumers. The company
has directed its assistant engineers to promptly conduct surveys and verify the
technical feasibility of the remaining consumers' premises."
Also,
the SBPDCL encouraged consumers whose premises have been surveyed and
technically approved to visit the distribution company's office, complete the
net metering agreement, and submit the necessary fees for solar panel
installation. Furthermore,
the principal secretary said that both central and state governments were
providing separate grants under the Grid Connected Rooftop Scheme.
Managing
director of the South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL), hoped
that Bihar state in India is expected to become a hub of clean energy. Because
consumers have shown interest in the scheme. Also, planned to install 10MW of
solar panels by the end of 2023. The company has received applications for
installing solar panels totalling 14.5MW.
In
the Union Budget 2022-23, the government allocated USD 2.57 billion for a PLI
scheme to boost the manufacturing of high-efficiency solar modules. Globally,
India ranks fourth in renewable energy capacity and wind power and fifth in
solar power capacity. Also, rising foreign investment in the renewable sector
such as the USD 75 billion investment from the United Arab Emirates is expected
to promote further investments in the country.
