Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA) Partners with Cepsa on a Clean Ammonia Supply Deal in Europe
Europe: Both organizations have
acknowledged setting up the first clean hydrogen maritime corridor between the
ports of Algeciras and Rotterdam for the decarbonization of European industry
and maritime transport. The alliance aims to set up a dependable and robust supply
chain for clean energy transformation in Europe, specifically in the
transportation and energy sectors in the region. Moreover, it is expected that
this collaboration will form a sturdy foundation for industries that are
heavily dependent on Non-renewable resources to secure clean ammonia and
hydrogen for several downstream applications in Europe while ensuring the clean
transformation goals.
The goal of the partnership
is to induct a safe, resilient, and cost-efficient supply chain for delivering
clean ammonia to Cepsa’s industrial and maritime customers in Rotterdam and
Central Europe. Furthermore, it will allow Cepsa to deliver green hydrogen to
its customer base with the help of Yara's exceptional global supply base and
its footprint. This initiative will also be a crucial step towards forming the
Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley and the execution of the first maritime
corridor of sustainable fuels that will link the South with the North of Europe.
Also, Cepsa is planning to build a new green ammonia plant at its energy park
in San Roque, Cádiz, near the port of Algeciras, with an annual production
capacity of up to 750,000 tons.
According to the CEO of Cepsa, “Green hydrogen and its
derivatives are the fastest, most workable, and most competitive solution to
accelerate the energy transition in heavy transport and ensure energy
independence in Europe. The agreements announced will give our project crucial
access to markets, customers, and distribution infrastructure: three key
elements to unlocking the potential of our Hydrogen Valley. This is major news
for the decarbonization of European shipping and industry and for the planet.” According
to the President of YCA, “Yara Clean Ammonia and Cepsa have forged a
pioneering partnership to set up a credible and robust supply chain for clean
energy transformation in Europe. This partnership will lay a
solid foundation for industrial efforts to secure clean ammonia and hydrogen
for several downstream applications in Europe while securing the clean transformation
goals.”
According to TechSci Research, the collaboration will
bring a positive impact on the electric vehicle and energy sectors. TechSci
Research believes that the partnership will also cut down the carbon footprint
in the Europe region and the dependency on fossil fuels by various industries
will significantly reduce such as by maritime transport in the continent. Furthermore,
green ammonia is one of the most effective alternatives for decarbonizing
maritime transport. As of 2026, shipping companies are expected to expand the
use of this sustainable fuel to reduce CO2 emissions by 100%. TechSci Research
sees this partnership between Yara Clean Ammonia (YCA) and Cepsa as to
capitalize on these market opportunities and expand their presence in the burgeoning
green ammonia industry.
