Ovivo Inc., a global provider of wastewater and water treatment equipment, technologies, and systems, declared an agreement to partner with E2metrix Inc. to treat and eradicate perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances ("PFAS"), also known as the "forever chemicals," and other emerging contaminants found in water and wastewater. The solution will permanently safeguard public health and provide our customers with an efficient onsite PFAS cleanup option.

From December 2021, Ovivo and E2metrix have been working together to create a locally, economically feasible PFAS removal and destruction system using electrochemical oxidation technology as the foundation of the integrated solution. In Alabama, USA, the Partners are now testing a solution that has shown remarkable results, with PFOS and PFOA levels in treated water decreasing by up to 99% and overall PFAS levels by over 85%, respectively. Comprehensive technology returns safe water to the environment at a large-scale plant while also reducing PFAS and breaking them down into their component elements of fluorine and carbon.

Ovivo strengthened the agreement and has taken an equity stake in E2metrix as part of this exclusive collaboration in order to hasten the commercial development of the integrated solution. In North America, further pilots to test the solution in a variety of settings, including municipal drinking water, municipal wastewater, industrial wastewater, and landfill leachate, are now being considered.

E2metrix is a technological business with headquarters in Sherbrooke, Quebec, with a focus on the design, development, production, and marketing of cutting-edge and environmentally friendly electro-technologies. Their main product is ECOTHOR®, a proprietary electrotechnology platform for the treatment of drinking water, sewage, and industrial water. Under the brand name ECOTHOR®-EOx, the existing ECOTHOR® reactors have been altered and customized to optimize on-site PFAS destruction.

Ovivo and E2metrix will put on display the electrochemical destruction technology, ECOTHOR®-EOx, at the American Water Works Association ACE 2023 conference, booth number 1243, which will take place from June 11 to 14 in Toronto, Ontario.
