Municipal sector to Lead Wastewater Treatment Services Market in the Forecast Period.
Growing populations and expanding urbanization are driving the Global Wastewater Treatment Service
Market.
According to
TechSci Research report, “Global Wastewater Treatment Services Market - By Region, Competition, Forecast & Opportunities, 2028”. The market for water and
wastewater treatment is expected to grow steadily over the coming years because
of the following factors, for instance, rapid population growth and urbanization,
strict water treatment regulations, growing demand for new water resources,
growing emphasis on public health and water quality, and rising incidence of
waterborne diseases.
In many nations, there is
little or no information available on the current amounts of wastewater that
are produced, collected, treated, and reused at various sizes. In an era when
the world is starting to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by
the United Nations, such significant information is crucial for sustainable
development connected to water and energy. The SDG 6.3 objective for wastewater
aims to significantly improve recycling and safe reuse globally while reducing
the percentage of untreated wastewater. The SDG 6.3 target is interconnected
with many other SDGs and targets, which can help in achieving their goals and
targets and vice versa. These include the need to increase international
cooperation and capacity-building support to developing countries in water and
sanitation-related activities and programs, to improve international
cooperation to make it easier for people to access clean energy
research and technology, and to encourage investment in energy infrastructure
and clean energy technology. Understanding the production of wastewater and the
related efforts to recycle it is crucial.

Few global studies have been
conducted recently to determine wastewater volume estimate and generate future
projections. For instance, Qadir et al. (2020) calculated that 380 billion m3
of wastewater are produced worldwide each year. The amount of daily wastewater
produced is predicted to increase by 24% (470 billion m3) by the end
of the SDG era in 2030 and by 51% (574 billion m3) by 2050 based on the
rate of population expansion and urbanization. It should be emphasized that
Asia produced the most wastewater of any global area, accounting for 42% (159
billion m3) of the total wastewater produced worldwide. The
production of wastewater is anticipated to rise to 44% by 2030, necessitating
intervention.
In a related research, Jones
et al. (2020) calculated that 359.4 billion m3 of wastewater are
produced globally each year, of which 63% (225.6 billion m3) are collected and
52% (188.1 billion m3) are treated. The amount of treated wastewater
that is directly reused each year is projected to be 40.7 billion m3, or 11% of
the total amount of wastewater produced. This shows that, sadly, almost 40%
(171.3 billion million m3) of the wastewater is released into the environment
untreated.
According to the report,
high-income nations produce 42% of the world's wastewater, which is nearly
twice as much as low- and lower-middle-income nations. Similar trends can be
seen in the wastewater treatment and collection percentages, with high-income
nations collecting and treating most of their waste (82% and 74%,
respectively), whereas low-income nations only collect 9% and treat 4% of their
total waste production. For the elite and lower-middle-class, as well as the low-income
groups, wastewater treatment is less than 50%. Regarding wastewater reuse,
the percentage of treated wastewater that can be recycled is greater in the
upper medium-income group (25%) and lower-middle-income group (25%) than it is
in the high-income group (19%), while the low-income groups can only recycle 8%
of the treated wastewater. IThe greatest rates of wastewater collection and
treatment were found to be in Western Europe and the lowest in Southern Asia.
In Southern Asia, where treatment rates were the lowest, there was little reuse
of treated wastewater. These findings indicate that although affluent countries
produce more wastewater, they also have the capacity to reuse wastewater.
Therefore, the
underperformance of the Asian area, particularly the Southern Asia region, in
treating and recycling wastewater was underlined by both recent studies. It
should be emphasized that among the South Asian nations, where India region is
the second-highest population, produces the most wastewater across the South
Asian nations. Therefore, these studies indicate that the market growth of
wastewater treatment is expected to grow in the upcoming years with a healthy
CAGR.
Based on application, the Global
Wastewater Treatment Services Market is segmented into municipal and
industrial. The municipal sector is anticipated to hold the greatest market
share for water and wastewater treatment in 2022. The significant market share
of this sector is related to the increased attention being paid to better water
quality and public health, the growth in water treatment projects, particularly
in Asian nations, and the deteriorating infrastructure in industrialized
nations. The expansion of this market is also fueled by the rising
environmental concerns and the number of strict laws and regulations governing
wastewater.
In terms of geography analysis, the Global Wastewater
Treatment Services Market is segmented into five major regions namely, North
America, South America, the Middle East & Africa, Asia- Pacific &
Europe. Asia Pacific region is expected to dominate the wastewater treatment market
at the largest share in the upcoming year. Rapid urbanization and population
growth, increasing residential water treatment demand, advances in membrane technology,
environmental deterioration, a shortage of water resources, and rising public
sector investments in water infrastructure are all factors contributing to the
region's high market growth.

“The
analysis shows that the market of Global wastewater treatment is expected to
boost in the upcoming year. The Asia Pacific region is one of the leading
regions in the forecast period. For Instance, in the Asia-pacific region, India
is the sixth-largest market for environmental technology in the world, with the
second-largest market share in the water/wastewater management subsector. For
instance, The National Mission for Clean Ganga, Jal Jeevan Mission, and
Community Drinking Water Schemes are just a few of the government initiatives
that have contributed to the growth of the Indian water and wastewater
treatment business. Additionally, Lockdown-related supply chain disruptions
have had a negative impact on several businesses. However, it is anticipated
that disinfection procedures at wastewater treatment facilities would be
successful, particularly against coronavirus, which will increase demand for
wastewater treatment equipment.” Therefore, these factors are fuelling the
market growth of the Global
Wastewater Treatment Services Market in the upcoming years Mr. Karan Chechi,
Research Director with TechSci Research, a research-based global management
consulting firm said.
