Air Pollution at its Peak in North India
The
National Capital and surrounding areas are witnessing critical air pollution
levels, resulting into a public health emergency in Northern India.
New
Delhi: The air
pollution levels in National Capital and nearby areas surpassed the safety
mark, with level of particulate matter reaching nearly 517 micrograms per cubic
meter on Wednesday. The record breaking pollutant level in the country is
almost 10 times that in China and 30 times the World Health Organization's safe
level.
The deteriorating air quality levels in
the Capital urged the Government to announce closure of primary schools in
Delhi and Punjab till Sunday. Moreover, the GoI implemented strict restriction
on the entrance of Trucks lugging non-essential goods, ceased ongoing
construction works and instructed civic bodies to impose a fourfold raise in
parking charges in the region.
Thick poisonous smog is expected to
swathe surrounding states including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan till
Friday. However, if the pollution level continues to persist over 48 hours, the
Government is planning to relaunch odd-even vehicle rationing scheme.
TechSci Research depicts that the increasing air pollution due to vehicular and
industrial emissions coupled with growing awareness about the harmful effects
of indoor air pollution in the metro cities is going to upsurge the demand for
air purifiers nationwide. With the doctors proscribing the citizens to indulge
in outdoor activities, the sales of air purifiers are expected to catch pace,
thereby driving the India Air Purifiers Market.
According to the recently published
report by TechSci Research, “India
Air Purifiers Market, By Filter Type, By End User Sector,
Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2011-2021”, the market for air purifiers in India is
projected to reach US $ 209 million by 2021. Residential as well as commercial
sectors are anticipated to generate high demand for air purifiers in India
during the forecast period, due to rising disposable income levels of consumers
and increasing awareness among people about benefits of using air purifiers.
HEPA combined with Activated
Carbon-based air purifiers dominated air purifiers market in India on account
of their high efficiency in removing particulate matter, odor and other harmful
gases. Adoption of HEPA based air purifiers in the country is growing
considerably in households, embassies, healthcare institutes, and other
commercial spaces, and this trend is expected to continue over the next five
years.
