PPG Industries Inc. Secures 40% Stake in Taiwan Chlorine Industries
United
States based PPG Industries Inc. announces acquisition of 40% ownership stake
in Taiwan Chlorine Industries (TCI) from China Petrochemical Development
Corporation
Taiwan:
PPG Industries Inc., a
Fortune 500 global paint & coatings, fiberglass supplier company, announced
acquisition of 40% stake in TCI chemicals, a chlorine based product
manufacturer in Taiwan. Initially, PPG owned 60% stake in TCI chemicals in
alliance with CPDC. However, on account of the separation of PPG’s commodity
chemicals business, the company transferred its stake into Axiall Corporation
in 2013. Upon acquisition of Axiall Corporation by Westlake Corporation in
2016, CPDC was supposed to transfer 40% of its stake to Axiall. However, Axiall
corporation granted the option for acquisition of minority stake in TCI to PPG
Industries Inc. in June 2016.
TechSci Research depicts that the acquisition
of minority stake would bolster the position of PPG in the global market for
chlorine based products. Additionally, expanding chlorine industry is projected
to positively impact the global chlorine dioxide generators market over the
coming years.
According to the recently published
report by TechSci Research, “Global
Chlorine Dioxide Generators Market By Type (2-Chemical,
3-Chemical and Electrochemical), By Application (Water and Wastewater
Disinfection, Pulp and Textile Bleaching, etc.), By Region, Competition
Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2021”, the global market for chlorine dioxide generators is
projected to grow at a CAGR of over 7% during 2016 - 2021, on account of
increasing investments and favorable government initiatives. In 2015,
Asia-Pacific dominated the for chlorine dioxide generators market due to rising
demand for these generators from China, India, Japan and Bangladesh. Increasing
government initiatives to encourage use of non-toxic reagents for water
treatment and bleaching is expected to boost consumption of chlorine dioxide in
the coming years. Few of the leading players operating in the global chlorine
dioxide generators market include Prominent, Ecolab and Grundfos.
