Biometric Attendance System Introduced at Government Doon Medical College
Medical
Council of India (MCI) issued a circular directing the medical colleges to
ensure attendance of doctors to be recorded through fingerprint biometric
India: GDMC to introduce biometric
attendance system for monitoring the attendance of doctors & staff members
in its associated hospitals and medical colleges, which is expected to provide relief
to the patients who wait for the doctors in associated hospitals. In addition,
the biometric system would also curb and monitor the practices of ghost
faculties in medical colleges. A ghost faculty is a fictitious faculty that is
proclaimed to be a faculty member by the college, but in actual practise, such faculty
exist only on papers and make a brief appearance whenever the MCI team visits
the college.
The Aadhar related details of
all the staff members and doctors would be uploaded in a central server for
creating biometric database, which will help in ensuring the timely arrival and
departure of doctors and medical staff. MCI has proposed to install five
biometric machines in the hospital under its Digital mission programme-II.
TechSci Research depicts that
adaptation of biometric in Government Medical College to modernise attendance, will
pave way for biometric market in future as it would offer accuracy to ensure
timely arrival and departure of doctors, staff members etc. Also, the implementation
of biometric to create a central database of all faculty and staff members will
bring in more efficiency in the system resulting in gathering substantial
evidence that can be provided before MCI, hence, resulting in stern action
against ghost faculty.
According to recent report published
by TechSci Research, “India
Biometrics Market By Type By
End Use Sector, Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2011-2021”, the country’s biometrics market is
projected to grow at a CAGR over 31% during 2016 - 2021. In 2015, the country’s
southern region held the largest share in India biometric market, owing to
rising industrialization and presence of a large number of leading private
sector companies in the region. Government, banking & finance, energy &
power, and consumer electronics are the key end user segments where deployment
of biometric systems is witnessing an increase, and this trend is expected to
continue over the next five years.
