SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. signs an agreement with Salalah Methanol (SMC)
for the development of liquid ammonia plant in Salalah city in Oman
Oman:
SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., a Canada based construction and
engineering group, has been granted a contract by the Oman based Salalah
Methanol Company LLC (SMC), for the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction)
of anhydrous ammonia production plant in Salalah, Oman. The agreement also
comprises of construction of off-site infrastructure and utilities and the
company would conduct preliminary studies, that would be commenced by beginning
of March 2017. This new ammonia production facility would utilize a technology
provided by Linde Group for the production of anhydrous liquid ammonia.
TechSci Research depicts that the setup of new ammonia production plant in Oman is
anticipated to positively influence the nitric acid industry of the nation.
Ammonia is one of the widely used raw material for the nitric acid production
and its increased production is expected to strengthen the Oman nitric acid
market.
According
to the recently published report by TechSci
Research, “Global Nitric Acid Market By Plant Type, By Sales
Channel, By Application, By Region, Competition Forecast and Opportunities,
2011 - 2025”, the global nitric acid market is projected
to grow at a CAGR of over 6% during 2016-2025, on the back of implementation of
stringent regulations related to greenhouse gas pollution control, expanding
ammonium nitrate and calcium ammonium nitrate industries and growing demand for
explosives from mining and construction sectors. Europe is the largest consumer
of nitric acid across the globe. However, rapid industrialization in APAC are
projected to drive robust growth in demand for nitric acid and its derivatives
in the region in the ensuing years.
