Lonza and Sanofi to Install Novel Biologics Production Facility

Sanofi S.A and Lonza, the France and Swiss multinational company, to enter into a strategic alliance to introduce a mammalian cell culture facility in Switzerland

Switzerland: French multinational pharmaceutical company, Sanofi is going to establish a 50-50 joint venture in collaboration with Lonza Group, with an initial investment worth USD285 million. The joint venture is a large-scale mammalian cell culture facility, that would be established in Visp, Switzerland. The construction of the facility would begin in 2017 and is expected to become operational by 2020. This joint venture is devoted to deliver eminent therapeutic monoclonal antibodies to the patients with a combination of biologics development pipeline of Sanofi S.A., in addition to Lonza’s designing and construction expertise.

TechSci Research depicts that this strategic alliance among the two major companies will cater to the surge in demand for biologic therapeutics. However, with this merger, Lonza is expected to strengthen its business acumen, by catering to the water treatment and other end use industries. This deal will further enhance the market reach of the company and widen the scope of its wastewater treatment business.
