Power Grid Won the 765 KV Power Transmission Project in Eastern India
The development of project would boost the demand for power and
distribution transformers market in India
India: Power Grid Corporation of
India won the contract to develop 765KV line in Eastern parts of India through
competitive bidding process. As per the bidding, the development project would include
the deployment of 765/400 KV power transmission line along with setting up of 2x1500
MVA substation at Medinipur and setting up of 765/400kV, 2x1500 MVA
transmission line in Jeerat, West Bengal.
TechSci Research depicts that the development
of project would provide a major boost to the transmission and distribution sector
in the Eastern Region of the country. The Eastern parts of India have
insufficient and old power transmission network which have resulted in huge
AT&C losses and power shortages in the region. The development of project
would include the setting up of both transmission line as well as substations
which involves the setting up of power and distribution transformers. As a
result, the market for power and distribution transformers in the region would
witness a major boost in coming years.
According to released report of TechSci Research, “India Power & Distribution Transformers Market Forecast &
Opportunities, 2020”, the power and
distribution transformers market in India is projected to grow at a CAGR of
over 10% till 2020. Power transformers contribute a major portion in overall
market revenues due to their higher price points. Under the 12thfive year plan
(2012-2017), Indian government allocated US$ 200 billion for strengthening the
country’s power generation, transmission and distribution sector.
One of the major developments underway includes the
country’s shift from 765 kV to 1200 kV power transmission. This, in turn, is
fueling the demand for EHV and UHV class power transformer installations
throughout the country.
