National Cyber Security Lab Launched at National University of Singapore
National
Research Foundation (NRF) funded USD8.4 million for National Cyber Security
lab
Singapore: National University of
Singapore (NUS), a publicly funded autonomous university, recently formed the
national laboratory to provide realistic environment for cyber security
research and test-budding of solution against cyber threats. The National
Research Foundation (NRF) has funded USD8.4 million for the National
Cybersecurity Research & Development lab. This cybersecurity lab is have
over thousand computers that are used to outdo various large scale malicious
attacks.
The infrastructure of
cybersecurity lab has already been tapped by various research institutions and industry
players for approximately 20 projects, including the cloud data storage
safeguards and software security improvements. The cyber security lab will be
equipped with large collection of research and education purposes documents and
material.
As per NRF’s Director of
Programmes, George Loh, "This will facilitate innovation and translation
of R&D capabilities in Singapore into solutions that can be deployed
globally, helping to strengthen Singapore's position as a cybersecurity R&D
hub," he added
Last year, in October, NUS
& NRF also partnered with local telco Singtel to introduce corporate cyber
security lab by pumping overall USD43 million over a span of five years.
TechSci Research depicts that
development of cyber security lab in Singapore will facilitate innovation and
research to support Singapore’s position as a cybersecurity R&D hub. Cybersecurity
services would play a vital role in protecting personal and corporate
information from data theft as breaching of information is highly susceptible
to internet users specifically financial transactions. With such enhancements,
the market of cyber security is expected to increase in coming years across the
country.
According to a recent
report by TechSci Research, “Global
Cyber Security Market By Security Type,
By Solutions, By End Use Industry, By Region, Competition Forecast and
Opportunities, 2011-2021”,
global market for cyber security is projected to surpass US$ 137 billion by
2021. Growing trend of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), rising adoption of
cloud computing, expanding market for Internet of Things (IoT) are expected to
continue driving the cyber security market across the globe over the next five
years.
