Organic Valley Expands its Organic Farmers Membership
America’s
largest cooperation of organic farmers and one of the leading organic brands in
the world will grow to a size of 2,000 farmer owners
USA:
United
States based organic co-operative (co-op) society is set to increase its
organic farmers membership to 2,000 farmers in the first week of January, which
will be accounting to 12 per cent of the organic farmers in the United States. Organic
Valley registered a 16 per cent growth in its membership size, and added more
than 40,000 acres of agricultural land.
The farmer members of the
Organic Valley Cooperative work in 36 states across the country, and deploy a
variety of farming techniques ranging from conventional farming techniques to innovative
dairies with solar panel and biodiesel. Since the business is not being held by
the shareholders or outside investors, it can prioritize paying the farmers a
fixed price each month for their services, as well as providing them with
valuable shared services such as top of the class veterinary care, farming
educational programmes, etc.
According to TechSci
Research, this recent development of the co-op will only prove to be more
beneficiary for the farmers. The democratic business model allows all the
farmers to have a voice in pay price, profit sharing, best practices and other
cooperative fundamentals. Since the beginning of its inception, the mission of
the Organic Valley Cooperative has been to save the farming families through an
organic cooperative business model that ensures a fair pay price to the
farmers, which is why the company is among the leading organic brand in the
United States and among the global leaders of the Organic food and beverage
industry.
According to a recently
published report at TechSci Research,
“Global
Organic Food Market By Product Type, By Region,
Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2021”, global market for organic food is
projected to grow at a CAGR of over 14% during 2016-2021, on account of high
demand for organic food in retail stores, restaurants, schools and office
cafeterias. Europe dominated demand for organic food across the globe and the
region is projected to continue dominating the market through 2021. Further,
organic fruits & vegetables dominated global organic food market, due to
high content of protective antioxidants, less pesticide residue and low level
of toxic chemicals in organically cultivated fruits & vegetables. White
Wave Foods, Hain Celestial, General Mills, UNFI, Sprouts Farmers Market and
Edeka Group are few of the major players operating in global organic food
market.
