Ford to Introduce Next-Gen Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Car
United
States: The new
next-gen Fusion Hybrid autonomous development vehicle uses the current Ford technology
platform, however, is installed with a new computer hardware system.
Moreover, the company is in
the process of producing electrical controls and adjusting it to the sensor
technology, which would allow the vehicle to sense, what all is in the radius
of the car.
Ford would deploy the all-new
LiDAR sensor in the vehicle, which have a comparatively sleeker design and a
widened field of vision, enabling the vehicle to make use of two sensors, instead
of four.
The new Ford autonomous vehicle
is also deployed with the technology platform as well as the virtual driver
system. As per Chris Brewer, Chief Program Engineer, Ford Autonomous Vehicle
Development, "The virtual driver system is designed for the car to perform
what a human can perform behind the wheel." He also added “The car senses
with the aid of two hockey-puck-sized LiDAR sensors, each generating millions
of beams, jut from the car’s front pillars, providing a 360-degree view. These
new sensors possess a sensing range roughly the length of two football fields
in every direction.”
The Ford autonomous vehicle would
be equipped with the HD resolution 3D maps to track the locations of stop
signs, crosswalks, traffic signals and other static things. Besides that, the
car would be mounted with three cameras installed on two racks on the roof.
This new development vehicle
brings Ford a step closer in its commitment to offer a fully autonomous vehicle
in 2021 for ride-sharing and ride-hailing services. For now, the car still
comes with a steering wheel and pedals.
As per TechSci Research, the constant
progress by Ford in the field of autonomous vehicles, brings the company a step
forward towards the development of this technology, which is expected to result
in the advancement of automotive industry in coming years. Moreover, the
company is committed to provide a fully operating autonomous vehicle by 2021
for ride sharing and ride hailing services across the region. The continuously
growing investment in the autonomous car technology market, is anticipated to enhance
the growth of the overall industry, worldwide.
According to a recent report
published by TechSci Research, “Global
Autonomous Car Technology Market Forecast and
Opportunities, 2035 – ADAS, Semi-Autonomous, Fully-Autonomous”, globally, the automobile
sector has been constantly evolving in terms of engine performance and design.
Apart from these parameters, evolution of autonomous features in passenger cars
is garnering attention of consumers across the world. Global autonomous car
technology market is primarily divided into three segments - Advanced Driver
Assistance System (ADAS) car technologies, semi-autonomous car technology and
fully-autonomous car technology. ADAS technologies are currently moving at a
brisk pace on account of rising inclination towards greater automation.
Moreover, fully-autonomous cars are expected to be commercially available by
2025, which is expected to translate into dramatic growth in the market.
