BMW to Venture into Autonomous Vehicle Segment
Germany:
BMW, one of
the biggest car manufacturing company is establishing a new development center
for autonomous vehicle testing in Unterschleissheim near Munich, Germany. The new
development center would have an employee strength of around 2000 people, for
carrying out business operations such as software development, testing of fully
automated driving and as well as testing of autonomous vehicles on road.
Klaus Fröhlich, Member of BMW
Management Board, carrying out the development at the BMW Group, said that “The
road to fully-automated driving is an opportunity for Germany’s automobile
manufacturing base. The decision to develop and road-test these vehicles in the
Munich area illustrates how the BMW Group and the whole region can benefit from
this shift in the automotive industry.”
According to Fröhlich, “It
has been expected that in 2017, BMW will lunch their first autonomous driving
vehicle into the market with the name of BMW iNEXT ”. Moreover, the company is
forming new team of experts, as well as taking benefits of the startups and
also with the established companies for the agility, industrialization,
security and flexibility that will accelerate development of company autonomous
vehicle segment.
