Prior to this project the company has
successfully carried out a test project and delivered food to Virginia Tech
students in September through a drone. Although, to prevent any mis-happening
human pilots were made available to take control. The company also had to
deploy human pilots to abide by the rules issued by Federation Aviation
Administration (FAA). Alphabet Inc. was granted by permission by FAA to test
delivery drones as a part of their research project. The company is planning to
implement the project over a span of next three years.
As per TechSci Research, the company’s
move of launching Drone Delivery System is one of its own kind in the Global
market. As of now, Alphabet is one of the early initiators to foray into the
food delivery business through drones. However, once implemented the service
has a high potential to be popular in the market. Additionally, the move is
also expected to increase the demand for commercial drones in the coming years.
According to a recent report published
by TechSci Research, “Global
Commercial Drone Market By Drone Type, By Application, By
Region, Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2015-2021”, the global market for commercial drone
is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 27% during 2016-2021. In 2015, North
America and Europe cumulatively accounted for a market share of more than 60%
in the global commercial drone market. With US being the largest market for
commercial drones, the civil aviation body of the US, Federal Aviation
Administration, has constantly been making amendments in policies and
regulations for use of commercial drones in the country. Moreover, frequent
modifications in the regulatory policies by European Aviation Safety Agency
(EASA) over the last few years has also been positively influencing the drone
industry.
