Evonik to Expand Production Capacity of its ROHACELL® brand

Evonik Industries AG, invests in capacity expansion for its Performance Foams business in Germany

Germany: Evonik Industry AG, a leading manufacturer of specialty chemicals would invest in production capacity expansion of its Performance Foams business in Germany. The production capacity of the plant located at Darmstadt, Germany will increase by 20% during the initial stages. The expansion will involve incorporation of new production equipment for manufacturing products under the ROHACELL® brand. The existing plant manufactures products that are used as a key component in the production of sandwich composites. The expanded facility is expected to begin its operations by second half of 2017. As per Senior Vice President of High Performance Polymers Business Line at Evonik Resource Efficiency Segment, Dr. Matthias Kottenhahn, the capacity expansion is fruitful step towards meeting the customers demand for performance foams offering lightweight solutions.

TechSci Research depicts that the expansion of production facility for enhancing the performance foams business in Germany would address the demand for high performance foams in various end-user industries such as aviation, automotive, sports equipment, electronics manufacturing and medical technology. Since India generates large demand for polyurethane foams manufactured in Germany, expanding performance foams capacity in Germany would be vital to the increasing demand for thermoplastic elastomers in the country over the coming years.

According to the recently published report by TechSci Research, “India Thermoplastic Elastomers Market By Type (Styrenic Block Copolymers, Thermoplastic Olefins, Thermoplastic Polyurethanes, etc.), By End Use Application (Automotive, Consumer Durables, etc.), Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2025”, the market of thermoplastic elastomers in India is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of around 7% during 2016 – 2025. Styrenic Block Copolymers dominated India thermoplastic elastomers market in 2015, and the segment is expected to continue dominating the market through 2025 owing to its wide range of applications in various industries, ranging from automotive to consumer durables. A major share in the demand for thermoplastic elastomers emanates from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, National Capital Region (NCR), Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, among others.
