AGRA Industries and Carbon Clean Join Forces to Boost Carbon Capture in Biofuels Industry

Carbon Clean and AGRA Industries partner to deploy modular CaptureX technology for CO2 capture in biofuel production, enhancing sustainability and enabling producers to qualify for Inflation Reduction Act incentives.

India: Carbon Clean, a pioneer in carbon capture solutions, has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with AGRA Industries, a leader in the design, fabrication, and construction of turnkey facilities. This strategic partnership aims to leverage Carbon Clean’s semi-modular CaptureX technology in agriculture-related sectors, including biofuel ethanol and sustainable aviation fuel production.

The CaptureX technology, operational at 49 sites globally, is largely prefabricated, with 80% of the system modularized and containerized. This design significantly reduces on-site activity and installation time compared to traditional open-plant construction. AGRA Industries, known for its comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services, operates across various markets such as corn and soybean seed processing, animal feed, biomass pellet production, and bio-based fuels.

Through this collaboration, customers will be able to capture CO2 emissions produced during the biofuel fermentation process, leading to fuels with lower carbon intensity (CI) ratings. This capability will help biofuel producers qualify for Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) incentives, including the 45Z clean fuel production credits and 45Q tax credits.

Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean, said, “Carbon Clean’s collaboration with AGRA Industries is a win-win for biofuel producers. Customers will benefit from the expertise of a leading agricultural engineering specialist and our modularised, innovative carbon capture technology that is cost-effective and simple to install. Biofuels are already renewable and by installing efficient carbon capture technology, producers can cut their carbon intensity still further and become full participants in the circular economy.”

Pat Hinner, President of AGRA Industries, said, “AGRA Industries is excited to bring over 60 years of general contracting experience and partner with Carbon Clean. With Carbon Clean’s expertise and technology, and AGRA’s experience in design-build skid modularisation, together we can make a positive impact by reducing carbon emissions.”
