Jharkhand State Government to Begin with Second Phase of Biometric Food Distribution

Jharkhand, take-off with the second phase for distributing food grains through
biometric food distribution to avoid corrupt practices and pilferage of
food.
Ministry of food, public distribution
and consumer affairs announced the facility in eight more district of Ranchi
with the target to cover all 24 district by the mid November 2016.The decision
has been implementation successfully though there were technical glitches in
earlier phase due to poor connectivity, lack of training to PDS owners.
The system once put in proper manner, after
rectifying small glitches, will enable PDS to avoid wastage and black marketing
of PDS food items. The ministry is putting in extra efforts to ensure that PDS
distribute food through biometric system only and give away with traditional
mode of distributing.
TechSci Research depicts that the
adaptation of biometric in PDS will pave a long way in implementing food
schemes effectively among the rural population of the state and across country.
Biometric in food distribution will enable government to remove hoarders and
black marketers of food items leading to successful welfare schemes reaching to
poor people.

over 31% during 2016 - 2021.
In 2015, the country’s southern region held the largest share in India biometric
market, owing to rising industrialization and presence of a large number of
leading private sector companies in the region. Government, banking &
finance, energy & power, and consumer electronics are the key end user
segments where deployment of biometric systems is witnessing an increase, and
this trend is expected to continue over the next five years.
