Intex, Micromax and Lava Likely to Launch Aadhaar-Ready Phones

India: Top mobile phone brands of India, such as Intex, Lava and Micromax, are likely to embed iris scan technology into their phones to make them Aadhaar-ready.

The CEO of US-based Delta ID, Salil Prabhakar, said that Micromax, Lava and Intex, along with Reliance Lyf, have initiated their discussion with Delta ID to integrate its iris-reading technology into their phones for Aadhaar authentication. With increasing Aadhaar enrolment in the country, various Chinese players such as Oppo, Gionee, Vivo, etc. are also interested in the company’s iris-based technology to enable their phones for Aadhaar authentication.  

Moreover, the Director of Intex Technolgies, Keshav Bansal, stated that the company is in discussion with UIDAI for the deployment of Delta ID’s ActiveIRIS technology into their phones, other companies that have been certified by UIDAI for iris scan authentication include India-based Biomatiques Identification Solutions and US-based IriTech.

TechSci Research depicts that deployment of iris scan technology into the phones will allow the users to validate their Aadhaar related details much easily by directly seeing into the phone’s IRIS camera.

Fingerprint recognition biometric systems are the most preferred type of biometric systems used across the globe, owing to their ease of use, low cost, high speed, and accurate results. However, in terms of growth, vein scanner biometrics systems segment is anticipated to outpace fingerprint recognition biometrics systems over the next five years. In 2015, North America dominated the global biometrics market, and the region is anticipated to maintain its dominance over the next five years as well.

Moreover, according to another recently published report by TechSci Research, “India Biometrics Market By Type By End Use Sector, Competition Forecast & Opportunities, 2011-2021”, the country’s biometrics market is projected to grow at a CAGR over 31% during 2016 - 2021. In 2015, the country’s southern region held the largest share in India biometric market, owing to rising industrialization and presence of a large number of leading private sector companies in the region. Government, banking & finance, energy & power, and consumer electronics are the key end user segments where deployment of biometric systems is witnessing an increase, and this trend is expected to continue over the next five years.
