UM Motorcycles to Launch the New Renegade Classic in India

India: American motorcycle manufacturer UM Motorcycles has postponed the launch of the its new Renegade Classic till 2017. Currently, two models of UM, Renegade Sport S and Commando are available for sale and the bookings for Renegade Classic is expected to begin in January 2017. The delivery of the Classic Renegade will begin with effect from April 2017.

The Renegade Classic is enabled with many exciting features. This motorcycle will have a fuel injection system instead of a carburettor unit. Moreover, the motorcycle will be equipped with 278cc air cooled cylinder giving a power output of 25PS and a torque of 22Nm. In addition to this, this motorcycle has a 6- speed gearbox which transmit power to the rear wheel. The new model of UM motorcycle is also fitted with optional ABS which was not available in the last two models -  Renegade Sport S and Commando.

As per the company officials, the New Renegade Classic is expected to be launched with a price under USD3000 (Ex-showroom) and will be competing with Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500cc. The bike was showcased in the Auto Expo 2016 which was held in India.

According to a recent report published by TechSci Research, “India Tire Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2021”, two-wheeler tire segment accounted for a volume share of over 50% in the country’s tire market in 2015, and it is expected to maintain its position as the largest tire segment over the next five years. Further, the country’s tire market is forecast to witness a CAGR of over 9% during 2016-2021. Though the replacement tire demand had a majority share in 2015, the OEM tire demand is expected to outpace replacement tire demand during 2016-2021. In 2015, Northern region accounted for the largest share in India’s tire market, followed by Southern, Eastern and Western regions of the country. Over the next five years as well, Northern and Southern regions are forecast to continue their market dominance and grab a cumulative market share of nearly 59% in 2021.

TechSci Research believes that expected launch of the new model - Renegade Classic is likely to boost the sales of motorcycles in India. As a consequence, the demand for two-wheeler tires is also expected to increase over the coming years, which if forecast to propel the India tire market.
