PolyOne Acquires Composites and Polystrand Businesses from Gordon Holdings
United
States: PolyOne
Corporation, a global provider of specialized polymer material, solutions and
services has acquired the composites and polystrand business of Gordon holdings.
The acquisition of both the businesses was carried out at USD85.5 million. The transaction
also includes acquisition of all the business assets, intellectual properties,
trademarks and production assets related to both the businesses of the company.
Gordon’s composites business provides solutions using advanced composite
technology and the polystrand business delivers solutions by utilizing reinforced
thermoplastic composite technology. PolyOne would include both the acquired
businesses in the existing portfolio of complementary solutions as a new
platform – PolyOne Advanced Composites. The company is also expected to add
USD40 million of revenue to the exiting revenues.
TechSci Research depicts that the acquisition of composites and
polystrand businesses by PolyOne Corporation would further strengthen the
company’s specialized portfolio of composite solutions thereby aiding the
company to address the growing demand from customers across the globe. Furthermore,
expanding thermoset composites industry would generate increased demand for masterbatch
for providing strength and imparting specific properties to the thermoset
composites.
According to recently published TechSci Research report, “Global Masterbatch Market By Type, By End
User, By Region, Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2021”, global masterbatch market
size is estimated to cross USD16 billion in 2016. Growth in the market is
anticipated on account of continuously increasing demand from major end use
industries, such as packaging, food processing, building & construction,
and automotive industries. Moreover, masterbatch consumption in packaging has
increased significantly across the globe over the last five years due to rising
popularity of small pack sizes, expanding sales and distribution network of
plastic processors and plastic products, as well as growing use of flexible
packaging market.
