Lufthansa Group, Honeywell Aerospace and Airbus team up for Runway Safety Solutions
United States: Airbus, Honeywell and Lufthansa team up to
work jointly on the development of a runway safety solution for Lufthansa
Group’s fleet. In order to set the highest standard in runway the companies are
combining their technologies which includes ROPS (Runway Overrun Prevention System)
by Airbus and Smart Landing technologies by Honeywell.
ROPS, a
performance-based alerting system which is designed to calculate whether the
aircraft can safely stop in the runway. Smart Landing, a software option for
the Honeywell Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) which helps the
Pilot during landings and reduces the risk of runway excursion.

Research analyses that by signing the Memorandum of Understanding the companies
will be providing a new safety system and expected to increase its market
presence in traffic management systems market.
According to “Global
Traffic Management Market By
Transportation Mode, By System Type, By Region, Competition Forecast and
Opportunities, 2011-2021”, global traffic management market is
projected to surpass US $ 22 billion by 2021. In 2015, North America was the
leading regional market for traffic management due to implementation of
stringent government initiatives supporting use of Intelligent Transportation
System (ITS), growing need to reduce traffic congestion and accidents, coupled
with increasing utilization of traffic data for traffic control in real-time.
On account of rising population, growing demand for public transit vehicles,
surging automobile sales, and rising demand for air travel, Asia-Pacific is
expected to witness fastest growth in its traffic management market during the
forecast period.
