Tata Steel, a prominent
steel manufacturer, has recently unveiled its groundbreaking low-carbon green
steel plant, marking a significant milestone in the worldwide drive to reduce
carbon emissions and combat climate change. The company is investing USD 312.66
million in the first phase of this project, which is expected to be
commissioned by March 2025. This facility will be Tata Steel's inaugural
low-carbon green steel plant in India.
Equipped with modern
technology, including electric arc furnaces, the plant's operations are
energy-efficient and result in notably reduced carbon emissions compared to
conventional steelmaking methods. The selection of Ludhiana as the location for
this plant was deliberate, as it is in proximity to the Hi-Tech Valley
Industrial Park and an auto hub, making it convenient to source steel scrap for
the production of long steel products under the company's flagship Tata Tiscon
brand.
Tata Steel's new
state-of-the-art Ludhiana facility represents a significant step forward in the
company's commitment to sustainable manufacturing and its goal of achieving Net
Zero emissions by 2045. Notably, the plant is expected to generate 500 direct
job opportunities and create another 2,000 jobs indirectly.
