Vodafone Invests INR1,000 Crore and Deploys 3,200 Sites in Delhi/NCR
India: In order to improve network services
to serve more than 1 crore subscribers in Delhi/NCR, one of the top two revenue
generating circles in India, Vodafone India has invested more than INR1,000
Crore and deployed 3,200 new sites in the region. The company has also
announced addition of 600 Kms. high capacity fiber backhaul for expansion of
voice and data services in the region.
Currently,
the company’s 4G network covers 60% of the total population in Delhi/NCR and
50% of the total region in terms of geography. In order to fulfil this mission,
the company has plans to cover Trans-Yamuna region, which includes East Delhi,
Noida, and Ghaziabad. The company has further plans to expand its services to
Faridabad in the coming 6-8 weeks.
According
to Apporva Mehrotra, company’s business head in Delhi/NCR, “Vodafone has 80%
prepaid customers, and two-third of these subscribers possess 3G smartphones.
To fulfil 4G service expansion plans in Delhi/NCR, the company would provide
free 4G swap through 10,000 multi-brand outlets in the region.”
With
deployment of 3,200 new sites and expansion of fiber network, Vodafone India
has total 15,000 cell sites and over 3,000 Kms. fiber network in Delhi/NCR
region. According to Vodafone India, “The company has executed largest deployment
of Self Optimising Networks (SON) technology till now.”

Research depicts that with the improvement and expansion of 4G network services
in Delhi/NCR region, competitive rivalry among telcos over prices and market
share would fuel up in the coming time in Delhi/NCR region.
