Apple and SAP Collaborated to Develop iPhone and iPad Applications for Businesses
Frankfurt: In order to boost the usage of Apple
smartphones and tablets in businesses, Apple Inc. and SAP SE signed an
agreement to develop applications specifically for iOS operating systems to target -doctors, industrial field
technicians and retailers. These applications would enable Apple to expand its
business presence.
According
to the agreement, both the companies would release a Software Development Kit
(SDK) by the end of 2016 to enable SAP to write native applications for Apple
devices leveraging the feature of its devices, such as location, touch sign-in,
etc. This would further give access to Apple to reach number of organizations
running SAP’s business software.
According
to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook, “Enterprise has not really taken advantage of all
great things that happens with mobility.” This agreement between both came on
that time when consumer market is getting saturated and Apple shares have
witnessed decline more than a quarter of their value in the past year, and now
company is trying to expand its business presence in the enterprise space.
SAP’s
i-applications would be written in Apple’s Swift language that allows faster
response time and better access to iOS technologies, as apps connect SAP
systems to Apple’s data centres directly. These applications will further be
able to connect to SAP’s S/4 Hana Software suite, which would enable these
applications to pull required information from Hana database as well.
TechSci
Research depicts that with introduction of applications designed especially for
enterprise combined with Apple’s product reach in businesses would not only
revolutionise mobility in enterprise space when trend of Bring Your Own Device
(BYOD) is witnessing an upswing, but also would enable Apple in catching up the
sales in the coming quarters as well.
