Odisha Signed MOU with Azure Power for India's 1st Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Project
India: The Government of Odisha
has entered into MoU with Azure Power Mercury Private Limited for installation
of India’s 1st grid connected rooftop solar project. The project is expected to
have minimum capacity of 4 MW. It will be installed across more than 100
Government buildings in city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The estimated cost of project is about USD5.24 million.
TechSci Research depicts that the new solar rooftop projects would help
to generate clean source of electricity in the country and will lead to growth
of solar rooftop market. In order to map the solar potential in the country,
the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), a nodal Ministry of the
Government of India for all matters relating to new and renewable energy, has
installed 51 Solar Radiation Resource Assessment (SRRA) in the country to
calculate the solar potential. The vision of Indian government to increase the
share of solar energy in energy mix is going to fuel the growth of solar
rooftop Market
According to the TechSci Research
report, “India Solar Rooftop Market Forecast & Opportunities, 2011 – 2021”, the solar rooftop market
in India to grow at a CAGR of over 60% during 2016 - 2021. In India, the solar
power market is in its developing stage, and numerous measures are being taken
by the government to promote the use of solar energy in the country.
